The 2024 MSI League of Legends (LoL) tournament is currently underway.
I'm a T1 fan, and I've been diligently watching and cheering for them since the early Play-In stage.
I've been truly invested in their matches.
Just yesterday, T1 (T1) and TL (Team Liquid) faced off in
the Bracket Stage Round 2 lower bracket.
The match took place.
After their previous loss against BLG, T1 was set to
face off against Team Liquid, the North American League's top seed.
They were going to face each other.
Team Liquid also boasts a few Korean players, including Faker's
former T1 teammate, Impact (Impact), in the top lane, along with
jungler, Omit (Omit), and support, CoreJJ (CoreJJ), among others.
It's quite a team with several Korean players.
In the first game, T1
banned Tristana, Nautilus, Lucian, Renata Glasc, and Rell,
mainly focusing on hindering the mid and bottom lanes.
Zeus (Zeus) picked Camille in the top lane, Oner (Oner) selected Poppy in the jungle,
Faker (Faker) went for Taliyah in the mid lane,
Gumayusi (Gumayusi) chose Senna (Solo Senna) as the ADC,
and Keria (Keria) picked Ornn as the support.
Team Liquid
banned Vayne, Twisted Fate, Ashe, Orianna, and Azir,
mainly focusing on countering the top and mid lanes.
Impact (Impact) picked K'Sante in the top lane, Omit (Omit) went for Xin Zhao in the jungle,
APAC (APAC) chose Aurelion Sol in the mid lane,
Yuyanjia (Yuyanjia) picked Kalista as the ADC,
and CoreJJ (CoreJJ) selected Alistar as the support.
T1 easily won the first game
by continuously securing kills against APAC's Aurelion Sol in the mid lane.
They took the lead in the match.
Zeus showcased incredible Camille superplays in the top lane,
and Gumayusi's Senna excelled with quick
vision control plays.
They secured a decisive victory.
The first game concluded with a score of 1:0,
In the second game, Team Liquid
banned Azir, Orianna, Ashe, Twisted Fate, and Viego.
They picked K'Sante for the top lane, Lee Sin for the jungle, Taliyah for the mid lane, Samira for the ADC,
and Nautilus for the support.
T1 banned Poppy, Sejuani, Senna, Tristana, and Lucian.
They picked Vayne for the top lane, Jarvan IV for the jungle, Ahri for the mid lane, Varus for the ADC,
and Kalista for the support,
selecting a strong bottom lane composition.
The second game was an intense battle that lasted nearly 45 minutes.
Team Liquid mounted counterattacks throughout the match.
Samira (Samira) had moments of dominance, securing multiple kills.
However, superplays from Vayne, Ahri, and Varus (Varus)
ultimately led T1 to victory in the second game as well.
Personally, I felt both teams' junglers made a few
mistakes or had moments that could have been better.
Moving on to the third game, Team Liquid
banned Azir, Orianna, Ashe, Twisted Fate, and Alistar.
They selected K'Sante for the top lane, Rek'Sai for the jungle, and Taliyah for the mid lane,
Kalista for the ADC, and Nautilus for the support.
T1 banned Poppy, Viego, Senna, Tristana, and Lucian.
They picked Vayne for the top lane, Sejuani for the jungle, Corki for the mid lane,
Varus for the ADC, and Rell for the support.
Early on, T1 implemented a lane swap strategy against Team Liquid,
aiming to suppress K'Sante and gain an advantage.
However, strong plays from Rek'Sai, Taliyah, and Kalista (Kalista)
helped K'Sante recover.
Team Liquid executed a Baron play with masterful vision control, catching their opponents off guard.
They secured a teamfight victory.
Corki and Rell (Rell) were frequently targeted and eliminated.
Gumayusi's plays shone through in several instances, but unfortunately,
T1 suffered a comeback loss.
Honestly, based on the pre-match discussions and my own expectations, I anticipated a clean 3-0 sweep for T1.
However, Team Liquid demonstrated their strength and resilience, and
they showed their potential.
T1's performance, since their previous matches, has shown some
concerns regarding their form, condition, draft picks, champion tier lists, and meta understanding.
I watched the fourth game with a sense of anxiety and hope that they wouldn't go to a full five-game series.
I really hoped they wouldn't have to play a 5th game.
In the fourth game,
T1 banned Tristana, Lucian, Nautilus, Xin Zhao, and Viego.
They picked Vayne for the top lane, Poppy for the jungle, and Orianna for the mid lane,
Senna for the ADC, and Ornn for the support.
Team Liquid used their first two ban picks on Azir and Taliyah,
which paved the way for Faker's Orianna (Orianna)
to be first-picked.
Team Liquid banned Camille, Twisted Fate, Ashe, Taliyah, and Azir.
They picked K'Sante for the top lane, Lillia for the jungle, and Syndra for the mid lane,
Kalista for the ADC, and Rell for the support.
APAC (APAC) selected Syndra and Lillia (Lillia), which are champions he's known to enjoy playing.
These picks were not very common in this tournament, so
I was a little worried.
The fourth game saw T1 unleash their full fury and dominance.
They completely overwhelmed their opponents from the early stages.
Faker's Orianna (Orianna) and
Zeus's Vayne (Vayne)
were instrumental in delivering a series of incredible superplays.
They started racking up kills.
Gumayusi's Senna (Senna), Keria's Ornn (Ornn), and
the crucial Baron play by Poppy in the jungle, where
her ultimate launched three opponents into the air,
completely decimated Team Liquid at 27:12.
The game ended swiftly at 23 minutes.
The T1 vs. TL series concluded with a 3-1 victory for T1.
Unfortunately, Team Liquid's MSI journey came to an end with their elimination.
T1 will face G2 in a rematch tomorrow!
A few days ago, G2 achieved a 3-0 victory against TES (TES), marking their first-ever win against an LPL team.
They've returned with a fearsome form, making me feel a bit like it's 2019 all over again.
I'm expecting a lot of exciting draft picks and
a thrilling match.
Of course, I hope T1 wins :)
Also, tonight at 6 PM,
Gen.G and BLG will be facing off.
I'm personally rooting for Gen.G, and
if T1 defeats BLG, the team that previously defeated them,
and Gen.G also advances to the finals,
it would be absolutely incredible!
It's almost like a Worlds-level drama from last year,
but I hope LCK dominates MSI.
I'll be back with another post for the remaining matches!
